“Lotz of companies don’t succeed over time. What do they fundamentally do wrong? They usually miss the future.” That quote is from Larry Page, co-founder of Google.

But “how” might you rightfully ask, “how does anyone who is alive miss the future?”  It seems like an oxymoron, If I am alive today – the present – and I live to see tomorrow – the future – “how, then could I have missed it if in fact I am already in it?” But then, you must understand that anything you are in is not future but present, and therein is the dialectic.

Such was the case for Jacob when he awoke from his sleep, and said, Surely the LORD is in this place AND I KNEW IT NOT.  There are times in the life of every Believer when (s)he misses the fact that in their most crushing crucible the Lord is there.

Walking down the road to Emmaus two of the Savior’s disciples had no idea that in fact, the stranger in which they were conversing with was none other than the living lord himself. 

How can sentient beings – those made a little lower than the angels and in the image of God himself be ignorant of his ubiquitous presence among us? Are we so mired in our here and now, that we are unable - unwilling - to recognize the fact that eternity – past , present, and, yes, future, walks with us now. Yeah, itz an oxy,’ isn’t it?

In this new year, a year fraught with angst, tension, tears and fears, let us look to the God of today who already has out tomorrow in His hands. Find your affirmation, quote it throughout the year – I’ve tethered my peace to Isaiah 55 “His word will not return void but it will accomplish that what He pleases, and it shall prosper the thing where to He sends it” – 

When Page looked at the future he changed the name of the company from Google to Alphabet and then he stepped down as CEO and brought in a new hire to do the job. Sometimes the answer is as simple as ABC; pay attention to the seemingly trivial things, who knows your future just may be ready to take a walk with you even now.
