It was so ironic that on the very same morning, I heard a reporter on a national t.v. network say, “I have never heard of ADVENT, and he was totally oblivious to why it was celebrated“ !! That very same evening, I was given this assignment by my Pastor, Reverend Johnny Golden Sr. of The New Unity Baptist Church to write my thoughts about the Advent Season which began this year Sunday November 29,2020 -Thursday December 24 , 2020.

Advent in Latin means “COMING “. This is the COMING of CHRIST as a child into the world . Christians use the four Sundays and weeks to prepare and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. Please don’t misunderstand, to me the Christmas season is one of the most beautiful times of the year. We begin to prepare our home cleaning and decorating the smells of cookies ,pies and Christmas dinner being prepared ,because we knew family and friends were “COMING “ Christmas Day.

I love the excitement of going out shopping for my family. (you reach my age, you find a seat and you become the official bag holder). Christmas should NOT be totally about gift-giving or how expensive the gifts are or the number of gifts you have under the tree. This is the time of year we should remember the true meaning of Christmas. Look at it this way; Christmas has two syllables CHRIST/mas. The first syllable is CHRIST, it is the most important syllable in the word .It represents who Christ is, 0ur Risen Savior. CHRIST who was sinless but loved us so much and knew HE was the only one to pay the ultimate price on the cruel cross of Calvary to save a sin sick world then and now. Praise GOD death nor the grave could hold HIM!! JESUS ROSE VICTORIOUS WITH ALL POWER. He is our intercessor placing all of our prayer request in HIS FATHER’S LOVING HANDS.

Please be mindful when you think about replacing CHRIST with an X, it means that you have dismissed HIM.

The Advent Season gives us an opportunity of reflection, prayerfully we are able to look towards tomorrow .

There are five spiritual components to the Advent candles which covers us from birth to glory. I would also like to include the wreath, it also has significance in the arrangement.

1. LOVE ~ Red Candle Scripture ~ John 3:16

2. HOPE~ Green Candle Scripture ~Jeremiah 29 :11

3. JOY~ Gold Candle Scripture ~ Psalm 16:11

4.PEACE ~ WHITE Candle Scripture~ John ~14 :27

5. CHRIST~ Center Candle

The CHRIST CANDLE represents all four candles. The CHRIST candle is placed in the center of the wreath as CHRIST is the center of our very lives. The wreath is symbolic ,made with various growth of the evergreen . This signifies continuous LIFE . The circle of the wreath has no beginning or end , this symbolizes THE ETERNITY OF GOD, and THE EVERLASTING LIFE WE FIND IN CHRIST. The pine cones symbolizes life and resurrection. The entire wreath as a whole is meant to remind us of the immortality of our souls and GOD’S PROMISE OF EVERLASTING LIFE THROUGH CHRIST JESUS.

In closing , I pray something was read that quickened your thoughts and spirit to know about the importance of the Advent Season and why we celebrate the COMING OF THE CHRIST CHILD.

Remember the most important gift we could ever receive did not come beautifully wrapped in a gift box placed under the CHRISTmas tree ,but in a lowly manger ,a box that was used to feed the livestock . I pray all who may read my thoughts will find in the upcoming year of 2021

~LOVE ~HOPE~JOY ~ PEACE ~.

Remember to center yourself in CHRIST, OUR SOON COMING KING ~.
