Education serves many purposes to everyone. If you ask me, the purpose of education is continued development. Education is the gateway to life.

I believe learning never stops. One can learn from anyone and anything around them. I’m most excited on days I’ve learned something new.

Often, I’m so excited I seek others to share the new discovery. The three most important purposes of education are forward progression, personal development, and professional development.

At an early age my family and teachers stressed the importance of education. I’ve always heard about the struggles of my ancestors including the lack of education and resources provided to them as a people. It’s impossible for me to not want to learn when those before me didn’t have this opportunity.

Education influences personal development in many areas of my life. I’ve used my education to grow and learn my own identity. My first time away from home was college. Like most students I basked in the opportunity to make my own decisions both good and bad. Such decisions increased my want to know more about myself and those around me. I began to read self-help books and select classes that challenged my thinking.

Professional development involves growing through theory and practice. After completing grade school, I went on to study at a 4-year university with hopes of reaching my career goals. Although, my career goals have slightly changed I still understand the importance education has on professional progression.

I’ve kept course readings in my possession to refer to them as I fulfill responsibilities of current work tasks. I’ve also maintained relationships with previous professors with the hopes of becoming a professor soon. Their support as mentors has been valuable and insightful. I can’t say I’d be where I am today if it wasn’t for the opportunity to receive an education.

Proverbs 16:16 (KJV) How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
