For the past 20 months, our entire world has seemingly been held hostage by the tight grip of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We have come through the dark nights of winter and the dog days of summer where COVID, Death, and Depression are seemingly at every turn. Yes, one season of hope after another has passed, and the “looked-for deliverance” is nowhere in sight. Cancer is still here; Isolation still crowds us; Rage still traps our hearts and minds; while all we do is attend virtual church hiding behind the Dark Mask of our Religiosity.

“Is there no Balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there?

Why is there no healing for the wounds of my people?”  Jeremiah 8:22

Here at the New Unity Baptist Church, the month of September marks the beginning of our Faith Year. This is not a time to faint, die or give up, but instead a time to shut out doubt, fear and negativity.

With the New Faith Year comes newness - New Mercies, New Revelations, New Manifestations.

During the weekend of 10 – 12 September we enter into our Annual Holy Convocation, when God’s people are summoned to a sacred assembly - sacred teaching, sacred preaching, sacred giving, sacred praying & fasting, sacred worship and sacred praise all extolled to the Most Sacred Lord and God, Jehovah.

Holy Convocation is a Time of Seeking:

  • Authentic Worship – To Show Devotion to God because of His Divinity, Supremacy, Humanity and Humility
  • Discipline – To Hear and Obey the Voice of God despite all of life’s distractions
  • Self-Discovery – To Unlock the hidden treasures inside each of us which we have deprived and ignored.
  • The Zoe Life – To Move beyond a life of gathering and hoarding things and to Transcend to a God-Kind of Abundant Life where God’s Plan is Our Top Priority.

As we get into the position where God’s Oil Can Flow On Us and God’s Glory Can Fill Us, fire won’t burn us and floods won’t drown us.  Why? Because We Believe the Report of the Lord!

I close with a quote from the book, “O the Places You’ll Go” written by famous children’s author Dr. Seuss. The book concerns the journey of life, its challenges and joys.

“You’re off to Great Places!

Today is your day!

Your mountain is waiting,

So… get on your way!”

Great Destinations People of God … Beyond the Veil!!

Deacon Hoover, I enjoyed your musings. Reflections on life can be quite exhilarating - and sometimes exhausting. However, the thought of "Newness" has refreshed my spirit and I feel like going on. Perhaps green eggs and ham are on the menu for today. Greatness awaits. Thanks Sam-I-Am.
